1. Backstreet Boys :

Four men of the famous American band Backstreet Boys opened a year full of international stars by putting on live concerts at Ho Chi Minh City-based Military Zone 7's Stadium on March 24th, and at Hanoi's My Dinh Stadium two day later.

Thousands of fans showed up for the concerts and enjoyed the music even though ticket prices started at VND500,000 (US$25), and cost up to VND2 million for first-row tickets.

Titled "This is us", the shows ended their world tour that began in October, 2009 in Portugal to promote their seventh studio album, which had the same name as the tour.

Before the concert date, Vietnamese fans held activities to welcome their idols, including a huge singing contest called "Backstreet Boys Wannabe," as well as many flash mob performances accompanied by the band's songs.

At the two concerts the band, which included A. J. McLean, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, Nick Carter and Kevin Richardson, sang their hearts out on songs that once made their name recognizable worldwide and topped many music charts, from romantic pop ballad "Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely", to the more catchy "Larger than Life," as well as songs from their latest album like "Straight Through My Heart," "PDA," and "Bye Bye Love".

During their performances, the band also gave a one-minute memorial to victims of the massive earthquake in Japan on March 11th.

Around 5,000 expatriates and local residents flocked to the RMIT University campus on the night of April 10th to see the famous singer, whose songs became anthems for the anti-Vietnam War movement of the 1960's and 1970's, perform for the first time in the country.

The excitement began as soon as Dylan and his band made their appearance on stage, with hundreds of people jumping up and screaming his name.

Dylan, despite his age of 70, sang 20 songs including, "Gonna Change My Way of Thinking," "Like a Rolling Stone," and "Forever Young" without pause.
